Human Rights in Colombia: Experience, Advances and Challenges
What: Human Rights in Colombia: Experience, Advances and Challenges, a talk with Adriana Mejía, Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia. Ms. Mejía talked about the process of self-reflection, self-assessment, and self-criticism that the Colombian Government has pursued in order to identify barriers and challenges to the State’s capacity to safeguard the full enjoyment of human rights. In doing so, Colombia has chosen to engage in a decisive manner in the strengthening of its own institutions, as well as in the building of the United Nations System on Human Rights, particularly of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). This presentation drew upon the transformation Colombia has achieved in recent years and on the lessons learned along the way.
