Corporate Social Responsibility

Canadian companies' adherence to corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the Americas has a development impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. In turn, Canada aspired to a leadership role in CSR's promotion and advocacy through its efforts to convene the first CSRAmericas meeting under the Québec City Summit of the Americas Action Plan and through the co-chairmanship of the Canadian prime minister and Mexican president of a high-level United Nations committee examining the role of the private sector in meeting the Millennium Development Goals. CSR is both financial and non-financial investment made by companies as part of their business plans, which have the additional benefit of providing public goods such as health, education, community capacity building and environmental improvements. These contributions not only build a stronger private sector, but they also contribute to poverty reduction.
